About Us

Our Founders

The Institute of Flowers (IOF) was established in October 2024 with the support of Maria Walsh MEP, Skillnet Ireland, and Positive 2 Work, marking a turning point for Irish floristry. Founded by Fionnuala McAuley, a florist with over 20 years of experience and an unwavering passion for the industry, and Sinead Kieran, a business and personal development coach, the IOF was created to give florists the recognition, resources, and representation they deserve.

Floristry is a skilled profession—one that requires creativity, expertise, and dedication. Yet, for too long, florists lacked a collective voice, a lobbying presence, or a space to collaborate and grow. Florist shops were closing with no clear path for succession, and the industry continued to be undervalued—too often seen as simply “people who play with flowers.” The time was right to change that.

The IOF stands to champion, protect, and elevate floristry in Ireland, ensuring it is recognised as the skilled profession it is. Through advocacy, collaboration, and opportunity, we are shaping a stronger future for the industry—one where florists thrive, businesses grow, and new talent is inspired to join the profession.
